Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) – Regional Representatives

YIAG1 Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) – Regional Representatives

Established in 1997, the Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) is an LCIA sponsored association for students, practitioners and younger members of the arbitration community.

Currently, there are over 4500 members from more than 130 countries.

All interested members of YIAG are invited to apply for the post of regional representative .

March 2013 will mark the third anniversary of the appointment of the following YIAG Regional Representatives:

Karel Daele (Africa)
Calvin Chan (Asia)
Barbara Helene Steindl (Central/Eastern Europe)
Amani Khalifa (Middle East and North Africa)
Baiji Vasani (North America)
Robert Deane (North America)
Dmitry Dyakin (Russia/CIS)
Alexey Konovalov (Russia/CIS)
Alfredo de Jes?s O (South & Latin America)

John Rhie (Asia)

It is approaching the time for them to take a well-earned break and for the YIAG co-Chairs to choose new regional representatives for the next three years.

The role of regional representative is an important one involving, among other things:

a) encouraging membership of YIAG in the region;
b) reporting to YIAG members on significant developments in arbitration in the region (including contributions to the YIAG e-letter and YIAG blog);
c) assisting to further the aim of YIAG to hold symposia in diverse locations worldwide;
d) assisting to arrange venues for symposia to be held in their region and encouraging a good attendance by YIAG members within that region;
e) organising local events in co-operation with the YIAG co-chairs.

Applicants should have the full support of their firm in seeking appointment as a regional representative.

Applicants should be 37 years of age or under in March 2013 so as to be 40 or under by the time their three year term expires.

If you wish to apply, please log in to your YIAG account at and then click on ‘Apply’ in the left hand menu below ‘Regional representatives’.

You will be asked to upload a CV/profile of your background and arbitration experience and a letter of application, which should include ideas that you may have for the future development of YIAG in your region.

The regions are not fixed and the areas to be covered by the new appointments will depend, to some extent, on the responses received. You will be asked to provide an indication of your proposed region.

Applications must be submitted on or before Friday 28 December 2012. We are accepting online applications only. Applications sent by email will not be considered.

It is hoped that the appointments will be decided by the end of February 2013 and the announcement made in March 2013.
